To deepen the inheritance of China's outstanding traditional culture, establish a high-quality platform for exchange and mutual learning among poetry enthusiasts from China and abroad, and assist staff and students in tracing the origins of Chinese characters and poetry while experiencing the profound charm of traditional culture, the International Students Branch of Shandong University of Technology's Poetry Society successfully hosted a poetry training and exchange event at the Confucius Hall on the afternoon of November 13th.

This training and exchange event specially invited Dean Zhang Zhaolu to serve as the keynote speaker. Centring on the theme ‘The Evolution of Chinese Characters and Pre-Qin Poetry’, he drew upon his profound knowledge and extensive teaching experience to guide international students in tracing the evolutionary trajectory of Chinese characters from ancient symbols to mature writing systems. He elucidated the unadorned literary style and profound connotations of Pre-Qin poetry, enabling participants to discern the cultural origins of writing and poetry through attentive listening, and to grasp the spiritual essence of traditional Chinese culture through contemplation.

Following the lecture, the interactive exchange grew increasingly vibrant. International students shared diverse perspectives on the theme, discussing their interpretations and insights into poetry from varied cultural viewpoints. RUSTAMBEK KYZY ZHAZGUL, a student from Kyrgyzstan, brought along a Russian translation of The Odes of the South. She shared interpretations of the imagery and rhythm within the Russian cultural context, allowing faculty and students present to deeply appreciate the unique charm of cross-cultural transmission of Chinese classics.

This poetry training and exchange event served not only as a vital practice in inheriting China's outstanding traditional culture and enriching campus cultural life, but also provided an opportunity for international students with a passion for poetry to engage in in-depth learning and mutual exchange.
