Jixia International Student Academic Forum
On the afternoon of May 29th, the Jixia International Student Academic Forum, organized by the School of International Education, was held in Room 414. The event featured academic presentations by two doctoral candidates: Arsalan Ahmad (2024 Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering) and Tausif Ahmad (2024 Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering, School of Agricultural Engineering and Food Science). Attendees included Professor Fan Zenghua from the School of Mechanical Engineering, staff from the Teaching Affairs Office, and international graduate students.
Arsalan Ahmad systematically introduced the research results of abrasive flow machining (AFF), optimized the AFF medium through interdisciplinary methods (materials science, computational modeling, mechanical engineering), and used Python and VASP code for computational analysis to achieve predictive modeling of medium behavior, closely integrating theory with practical applications, giving everyone a new understanding of AFF technology and seeing its huge development potential in the field of mechanical engineering.
Tausif Ahmad elaborated on the research of using natural products to cure or alleviate ulcerative colitis, by scientifically studying herbal tea targeting pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory interleukins (such as TNF κ, IL-6, IL-1 β, and IL-17) to alleviate symptoms of chronic gastrointestinal diseases. His speech was rich in content and sufficient in argumentation, which gave the teachers and students present a deeper understanding of the potential of natural products in treating diseases.
After the academic speech, the international students who participated on-site actively asked questions to the two speakers and discussed some research questions, creating an active academic atmosphere. Finally, Professor Fan Zenghua from the School of Mechanical Engineering, as the representative of the supervisor, delivered expert critiques on the two speaking students. His comments not only affirmed the efforts and achievements of the two doctoral students in academic research, but also provided learning directions and ideas for other students present, which greatly benefited everyone.
This academic forum is the first international student academic event organized by the School of International Education. Through this event, we fully demonstrated the academic achievements of our outstanding international students and built a high-level academic exchange platform. The school aims to use this as an opportunity to inspire more international students to deepen their professional academic research and continuously improve their academic abilities and comprehensive literacy. In the future, the School of International Education will continue to carry out such academic activities, further promoting the connotative development of the school's study abroad education in China.
